Time and Your Well-Being
The title of this article has been deliberately kept in such a way that it entices the reader to read further. Now, before I start explaining it, I would like you to do an exercise. I request you to visualize how you were 5 years ago from now, how you used to look like, how you used to be like, how skillful you were at that time. Here comes the most important part. Now you think about the goals you had in your mind at that point of time, how you imagined yourself to be 5 years down the line and then ask yourself, are you that person ? Are you the same person today that you thought of being 5 years ago ?
Before you just answer to the above question as a Yes or a No, I would want you to be subjective in that. The idea of asking this question is not to discourage you, to make you feel like a loser or to feel bad about yourself. In fact, if it's the result of the Question, then it'll not serve it's purpose. The sole idea behind it is to analyze certain things, situations and happenings that have been taking place in the past few years with you.
If the answer to the question happens to be more towards the negative side, let's discuss why it has been so. May be, you might have seen tough situations during this period but such things are a part of life which will keep coming up lifelong. But what we need to understand is that how much do we focus on our on improvement and work towards it in order to live a better life actually determines how happy we can be and how much can we really achieve. And the improvement takes little steps daily. We will call these steps as Habits. Our habits will eventually determine how well we can follow the track that we want to really go on.
Virat Kohli has not been Virat Kohli since birth. In fact Virat Kohli is far better batsman today than the Virat Kohli of may be 5-6 years ago. It has been so because of the habits that he formed - Strict Diet Plan, Consistent Practice and Determination. But it doesn't happen overnight. Our body needs to develop itself over a certain period of time. If you observe a Joker in the Circus playing with the balls, he has been consistent with his practice which has resulted in his current performance. Sylvester Stallone looks super-muscular even at the age of 70 because he has been consistently exercising. MS Dhoni was not as fast a wicket-keeper at the beginning of his career, he has become that by habit of going to the ground daily and let the ball not go away.
Now, for the simpler things in life like good oral health (white healthy teeth, clean tongue etc.), stamina to work in day to day tasks, good rapport with colleagues and looking good, you don't even need to take care much once you've formed the habits. Because habits will be stored in your subconscious mind and will let you do brush your teeth and clean your tongue regularly, do yoga for 15 minutes daily, do talk with the colleagues with a smile and will let you be well dressed which will take care of all the above things successfully. You won't even realize how powerful these small daily efforts can be. Over the time, they'll turn out to be giant enough to appear considerably big. But it takes determination to form habits which you need to have. Science says, you need to perform some particular task daily for 21 days and it'll become your habit. So what are you waiting for, go ahead, list down the important things in life that you want to get or do or be, think about the steps to be taken, and start forming the habits. With time, you will get your 'Well-Being'.
